When it comes to top ten list making like these there are a few topics that are a dime a dozen. Best villains best sequel and of course best car chase are all members of this not so exclusive club. I TheDVDGrouch like to think I strive for something a little more original on my part and try to pay tribute to the sadly underrated side of things. And so I have decided to compile a list of The Top Ten Underrated Movie Car Chases no Blues Brothers or Bullitt here( even though there great) only the Car Chases that we love but never attained that level of notoriety they should of.
10)Rat Race: (2001)
The comedy car chase is a hard thing to pull off in movies usually the action takes a back seat to the comedy or vice versa. Rat Race I feel is a film that is able avoid this pitfall by simple throwing in everything and the kitchen sink. The Chase I speak of has Seth Greens character and his brother chasing down a dishonest key maker who has stolen their key to a hidden treasure. The car chase quickly goes up a notch when the key maker enters a hot air balloon the balloon then takes a trip through a farmers field and needless to say comedy ensues. I placed this on further down on the list because although I enjoy the comedy of the scene it becomes a little childish really quick.

9)Dukes Of Hazard: (2005)
Oh man this movie sucked, the whole movie remake of an old TV show phenomenon for the most part sucked. However despite all that this particular movie did mange to have a pretty decent car chase for in it. Sure its nothing that changed my life or film in general but it was pretty cool to watch plus any car chase set to ZZ Top music has my attention until its over. The chase itself like so many from the show finds Bo & Luke being chased by the police giving them a chance to show off there expert driving skills.

Like most people I was disappointed by Terminator 3 as a whole what I wasn't disappointed with the absolutely epic multi vehicle chase finds series protagonist John Conner being chased down by the latest terminator model a model that just happens to be able to hack and take over other machines. Clocking in at just over 8 minutes these chase spares no expense there are crashes there is even a cool bit with a construction crane. Overall its just a lot more memorable than the movie its coming from and I personally love it.

Chances are if you live outside Canada than there is a good chance you have never heard of “The Trailer Park Boys” in a nutshell its a weekly comedy mockumentary that can be best described as Cops but from the criminals point of view. Spawning seven seasons two specials and another movie the creators deiced to pull out all the stops for the 2009 film. The chase begins with the shows gang of lovable losers pulling off an expertly dimwitted bank heist in a fake armored car. Needless to say the real armored car arrives and the gang is off on a hilarious chase.

6)Death Proof: (2007)
Sweet cars, hot girls, Kurt Russel all in a film by Quentin Tarantino it couldn't get much better unless you told me there were dragons and chocolate chip cookies. And while there are no beasts of fantasy or baked goods we are treated to a great hunter becomes the hunted car chase to the death.

5) The Transporter: (2002)
Very rarely do we ever get to see a movie open with such a bang. Jason Statham's character is assisting in a bank robbery. When the people he is driving ignore one of his many rules a tense situation begins. So few car chases are able to covey such emotion and be able to weave story while also being entertaining. The Transporter is able to do that and more which is why it steals the number five spot.

4) Goodfellas: (1990)
One could really argue whether or not the helicopter scene from Goodefeallas could be considered a real chase. I mean for the most part mobster Henry Hill isn't even sure if there really is an FBI chopper following him or if its all in his head.Either way it makes for a great scene even if it isn't an underrated chase scene.

3) Quantum Of Solace: (2008)
James Bond movies have always been known for there great car work and Solace is no exception. As a matter of fact this film had a couple of chase scenes to choose from and in the end I felt the one at the beginning was quite possibly the best it had to offer.

2)Batman Begins: (2005)
Do I really have to explain myself here? I mean its Batman freaking Batman! it dose not get much better than this. This chase has just about everything roof jumping cop busting and did I mention Batman. The real star is of course the Batmobile itself and to be honest I don't think its ever looked better.

1) The Italian Job: (2003)
There are few times when making these list that I truly fell like I can't do a scene justice. But the final mini cooper chase scene at the end of the 2003 remake of The Italian Job is one of them. The word epic comes to mind and I really think its the best word to use.The camera work and the stunts and helicopter use are truly a sight to behold and unlike other car chases it is integral to the movies plot. While I planned on posting a link to the actual scene the way I feel it a person should really see the the film as a whole and not just the scene out of context.
Well that's my list I hope you enjoyed and feel free to leave a comment.
